Story of the Comic
I don't think of myself as much of an artist - writing is what I'm more interested in, but I draw solely because I find it to be fun (whereas I put writing to good use in Real Life - good grades on research papers are a Good Thing). However, when I finally got things going on a new story called "Neko Machi," it kept reading like scripts for a webcomic. After a little bit of prodding from some friends, I started trying to draw actual comics, and after doing several of them, I decided that I could do it as a webcomic after all. I had a concept that's easy to devise new ideas for, fun characters, and a good head start (about 20 comics in pencil and scripts that'll allow for a good 30+ comics beyond that). I recruited A-sama/Tarokun (of Nekobox fame) to help out with scripts and such for the site, since that stuff is a bit over my head.

In February 2005 Neko Machi will be a full two years old. The comic has switched to being inked (and occasionally even colored), moved to its own URL, gone through numerous storylines, and picked up a few new characters here and there.

Story of the Characters
There isn't much of one... Basically Neko Machi (Japanese for "Cat Town") takes place in a city that, for reasons totally unimportant to the story, is populated entirely by anime cat-people and it follows the lives of some high school aged catgirls and their various friends as they go through everyday life and make cynical comments. Often nonsensical and silly, and occasionally touching.

The links below will take you to the beginning of each of the alleged story arcs so far in Neko Machi:

Omake Weirdness
Neko Machi has wound up having a lot of bonus stuff posted outside of the normal MWF schedule. Some are one-shots, some are recurring, and some may or may not continue depending on how lazy I decide to be.

  • Anime Frankenstein: A new form of omake-filler-torture I've devised. Take Frankenstein from the SNL skit, and make him a teenaged anime fanboy. Each installment has him shouting something random and fanboyish, and usually wearing a tasteless T-shirt to go along with it.
  • Daisy's Dose of Wisdom: Random tidbits to help you through life, courtesy of Sunny (aka Jenny).
  • The Differences Between Anime And Real Life: Comics helping to explain such things.
  • Neko Ewen: Weird little comics using a horribly deformed caricature of Neko Machi's artist.
  • Photos of Random Crap: Sometimes I just like to monkey around with the digital camera because I can.
  • Shadow and Midnight: Shadow and Midnight are two catgirl sisters, who I basically created so I could do comics that I couldn't get away with using characters based on my friends. They're somewhat based after two different pairs of real black cats belonging to people I've known, and that's where they got their names from.
  • UFO Catcher Theater: Comics made from digital photos of my UFO catcher dolls (and other plushies and toys). Be afraid.
